8 Fall Activities In Shipshewana
Ahhh … autumn. There is nothing better than getting your family out in that crisp, cool air for some good old fall activities.
From buggy rides to craft fairs, here are some things to do in Shipshewana during fall (this does not even mention all of the fantastic stores in town that are open year-around!)
1. Shipshewana Flea Market
345 S Van Buren St, Shipshewana, (260)768-4129, Tues. & Wed, May through September 25, 2019, 8am-4pm. Find September bargains on fall decor, mums, pumpkins, apples and more at the Shipshewana Flea Market – open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays through the end of September. Hundreds of vendors sell their goods and wares at this huge outdoor flea market. Food on site.
2. Fall Crafter’s Fair at the MEC
Shipshewana hosts a festival of crafters, entertainers and musicians called Fall Crafter’s Fair that is perfect for families and individuals looking for something truly unique from normal weekend routines. You’ll find a quilters, carvers, painters, cloggers, musicians, food and crafters at the festival. Kids can enjoy free rides in the miniature buggy and a whole tent just for them.
3. October Antique Market
368 S Van Buren St, Shipshewana, (260)768-4129, October 4-5, 2019, 9am-4pm – Shop antique & vintage treasures including furniture, jewelry, primitives, collectibles, advertising and more at this new October Antique Market held under the Farmstead Event Pavilion on October 4 & 5, 2019. This Antique Market is held during the town’s Fall Crafter’s Fair and in conjunction with the opening weekend of the 2018 Shipshewana Across the Road Fall Indoor Flea Market (see below).
4. Shipshewana Across The Road Indoor Market
68 S Van Buren St, Shipshewana, (260)768-4129, Fri. & Sat, October 4 – December 7, 2019, 9am-4pm – Shop from 50-60 flea market vendors inside the Farmstead Expo Barn in Shipshewana. Find bargains on crafts, books, beauty products, clothing, home decor and more. The 2019 Shipshewana Across the Road Indoor Market will be open every Friday & Saturday, from October 4 to December 7, 9am – 4pm. Admission and parking are always free.
5. Buggy Lane Tours
140 Harrison St, Shipshewana, (574)333-9584, Mon.- Fri. May-December, 10am-Dusk – Enjoy the fall season in Shipshewana the way it should be enjoyed – from inside an Amish buggy! Buggy Lane Tours offers buggy rides and a look at the Amish experience. They offer everything from a short buggy ride through downtown Shipshewana, to a private guided tour through the countryside followed by an Amish home cooked meal. Or, you can even go out and get a tour of real working Amish farms! The views will certainly be awesome – you might see crops in country fields, one-room amish school houses, laundry blowing in the breeze, white painted houses, and maybe even an occasional stand selling homemade baked goods or home grown vegetables.
6. Ship-Chic Craft & Vintage Show
345 S Van Buren St, Shipshewana, (260)768-4129, October 26, 2019, 9 am – 3 pm – If you’re like me, you like giving unique gifts at Christmas time that put a smile on your family and friends’ faces. One of the best places to shop for amazing gifts is the Ship-Chic Craft & Vintage Show here in Shipshewana. This is a curated indoor pop-up market on Saturday, October 26th featuring amazing products for DIY lovers, Pinterest obsessers, Etsy loyalists, creative gift givers, small business supporters, or just folks who want a unique holiday shopping experience! Old stuff, new stuff and awesome stuff all picked with quality in mind. There’s also door prize drawings, giveaways and food! Admission is $5 at the door. Children 12 and under are free and parking is free.
7. Corn School Festival in Downtown LaGrange
Downtown LaGrange, Indiana, 260-463-7414, Tuesday, October 1 – Saturday, October 5, 2019 – This annual street fair held in downtown LaGrange, Indiana, is loved by locals for the rides, vendors, food and Corn School contests. Events include a cruise-in, parade, farm & flower exhibits, queen contest, citizen of the year announcement, farmer’s market, and a garden tractor pulling contest. The 2019 LaGrange Corn School will be held October 1 – October 5.
8. Pumpkinvine Nature Trail
The Pumpkinvine Nature Trail is a must-do in October because of the amazing fall colors. Take a walk, or better yet, a bike ride down this paved path that goes from Goshen to Middlebury to Shipshewana. You’ll get to witness the peaceful Amish countryside, farm life and of course, the beautiful trees. Definitely put the Pumpkinvine Trail on your list for this fall before it gets too cold to ride a bike!
