Most businesses in Shipshewana reflect the Amish and Mennonite religious culture of the area and are closed on Sundays. However, there are still plenty of fun things to do in the surrounding area that will keep you occupied as you enjoy the slow relaxing pace of Shipshewana life.
Here are 11 great Sunday activities in Northern Indiana:
1. Get outside and visit one of LaGrange County’s spectacular parks! Go fishing, play at a playground, bird-watch, swim, hike, picnic, try archery – the list goes on and on! Most parks are open 8:00 a.m. to sunset unless otherwise posted. Favorites include Dallas Lake Park and Delt Church Park.
2. Take a Road Trip to Amish Acres – Just a 45 minute drive from Shipshewana is Amish Acres in Nappanee, Indiana. Here you can experience the restoration of the Stahly-Nisley-Kuhns farmstead, the only Amish farm listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
3. Relax at a Winery. Favorites include Fruit Hills Winery in Bristol, Indiana, only about 20 minutes from Shipshewana. Relax in their beautiful tasting room or on the scenic deck. Stoney Creek Winery is another quaint family-owned winery, located in Millersburg.
